RADICAL PUBLISHING TO UNVEIL
BRONZE HERCULES STATUE
AT SAN DIEGO COMIC-CON
July 15, 2010, Los Angeles, CA – For San Diego Comic-Con International 2010, Radical Publishing and Radical Toyz are pleased to unveil their very first bronze, limited edition statue on display at Radical Publishing’s panel on Thursday, July 22nd at 2:00 P.M. in room #32AB and later the Radical Publishing booth #3735 from July 22nd – 25th at the San Diego Convention Center. The statue is based on the iconic cover art by comic book hall of famer, Jim Steranko, for HERCULES: THE THRACIAN WARS. Radical Toyz commissioned artist Chris Ingram to bring to life the art that represents Radical’s flagship title. The statue, cast in bronze, will stand 20 inches in height and is cast in solid bronze with a solid marble base.
For this extremely limited run, Radical Toyz will pour only 25 casts of the statue. Of these, three will be studio proofs and two will be artist’s proofs. The remaining 20 will be available for purchase, with each one numbered and signed by the artist. Furthermore, each statue will come with a watermark Certificate of Authenticity signed by Ingram, as well as Radical Publishing’s President and Publisher, Barry Levine and Executive Vice President, Jesse Berger. Each statue will then be individually wrapped in suede, carefully nestled in a hand-poured clamshell and placed in an exquisitely crafted brass handled wooden box. The box will also contain four color-glossy pictures of Radical Publishing’s famous Grecian hero as envisioned and created for the graphic novel by artist, Jim Steranko.
“This image by Jim Steranko is more to me than just a piece of artwork,†states Levine. “Besides being created by one of the greatest living artists, it was the first image for our debut comic title. Matter of fact, it holds such a special place for me, that I had it tattooed on my arm! Hercules was also our first project to be sold as a major motion picture. This maquette is reflective of what Radical is doing with our characters in regards to merchandising.â€
Ingram adds “The wonderful part about working with Radical is that they have a specific message that they communicate in their art and this makes it easier for a sculptor. No one does ‘faces’ like Radical! This is true with all of their graphic novels- the emotion and the realism is unlike other publishers today. The guys at Radical have backgrounds in many art fields like photography and film so they understand that a face is not just a hole poked in clay to make an eye. I am just so happy to be a part of it!â€
